Justice Minister Zbigniew Ziobro was asked by TVN24 reporter Marta Gordziewicz about the position of the Polish government on the complaint filed by the minister’s mother with the European Court of Human Rights. According to Gordziewicz’s report, the Ministry of Justice did not want to defend Poland’s interest in this dispute. Ziobro did not directly answer the question why he decided that the government should take a neutral position on this issue on behalf of all of Poland.

Marta Gordziewicz in the reportage “The Ziobro State” showed the activities of the investigators in connection with the death of the father of the Minister of Justice. The case was dismissed twice by an independent from Zbigniew Ziobro the prosecutor’s office. When PIS seized power, both the prosecutor’s office, already supervised by Ziobro, and the prosecutor’s office Ministry of Justice.

The wife of the late Jerzy Ziobro and the mother of the incumbent minister, Krystyna Kornicka-Ziobro, filed a complaint with the European Court of Human Rights. According to information obtained by Gordziewicz, the Ministry of Justice did not want to defend Poland’s interest in the dispute with the mother of Zbigniew Ziobro by the ECtHR. Ziobro’s ministry proposed to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs not to question the facts contained in the complaint and to take a neutral position.

On Wednesday, at a press conference, Marta Gordziewicz asked Minister Ziobro about the complaint to the ECtHR and the ministry’s position on the matter.

– There was no Polish position on this matter. Unlike in all other matters, for the reason that I did not want anyone to accuse me of having my personal point of view on the matter impinge on this position. That is why the Polish government has not taken a position on this matter – said the minister.

He added that “if there was a position of the Polish government, it would have to take my position on this matter into account.” “And I have no doubt that there have been serious irregularities in this case,” he said.

Gordziewicz asked Ziobro whether Deputy Minister Łukasz Piebiak – whose e-mail she revealed in the report – consulted with him the proposal addressed to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. “I don’t know what he wrote,” replied Ziobro.

– It is true that the lack of a position – whether one is for or against this complaint – was a position known to me and accepted by me as ethically correct. Otherwise, I would have to take a position supporting the merits of the complaint – said the minister.

Gordziewicz asked several times why Ziobro decided that the government should take a neutral position on this issue on behalf of all of Poland. The minister did not answer the reporter’s question directly.
