Justice Minister Zbigniew Ziobro referred to the changes introduced in the justice system. He said that if the largest right-wing group gave the green light to implement bills that have been in the ministry’s drawers for four years, he would welcome it. He also assessed that we are dealing with the process of “hybrid war by the European Union against the Polish legal system and the democratic system”. – What does the European Union tell us? That Poles are not allowed to influence real changes in the judiciary through democratic elections, he added.
Zbigniew Ziobro was asked on the air of the morning of the Catholic Broadcasting Station Siódma 9 when and what we can expect when it comes to the reform of the judiciary. The minister replied that as regards the reform in the systemic and administrative dimension, it was “de facto” detained in 2017. As he indicated, it was influenced by President Andrzej Duda’s veto against two acts – on the National Council of the Judiciary and the Supreme Court – and then the decision of Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki that he would conduct negotiations with the European Union. As he said, they resulted in “the necessity to block further changes in the judiciary”.
Ziobro said that the attempt to reach an agreement with the European Union “failed” because, in his opinion, the Union “instead of seeking an agreement, only simulated his willingness” and “took further actions against the Polish state, Polish democracy, questioning Poland’s constitutional rights to do so, to change the justice system.
– So if there really is a change in the political situation in the sense that the largest grouping will give the green light, that the bills that have been in the drawers of the Ministry of Justice for four years can be launched, I will only accept it with satisfaction that we will finally be able to do what we promised – said the Minister of Justice.
Ziobro: We are dealing with a hybrid war process on the part of the European Union
According to Ziobro, we are currently dealing with the process of “a hybrid war by the European Union against the Polish legal system and the de facto democratic system”. – What does the European Union tell us? That Poles are not allowed to influence real changes in the judiciary through democratic elections, he said.
The Minister of Justice added that the European Commission says that “Germans are allowed, the German state is allowed, but you, Poles, are not allowed, because judges themselves are to decide, the corporation itself excluding democratic mechanisms, and if someone can interfere and designate the borders are only the CJEU and Brussels. “
– In fact, the point is to extend the entire judiciary beyond the boundaries of the Polish state. (…) I hope it will never happen, and if this reform is carried out, it will be a far-reaching reform that will not necessarily please officials and Eurocrats who would like to limit Polish sovereignty – he assessed.
When asked if he had already talked about it with Jarosław Kaczyński, the deputy prime minister, the president of Law and Justice, Zbigniew Ziobro replied that the conversation was still ahead of them. – I am talking about future solutions that may emerge from these talks – said the Minister of Justice.
