A 33-year-old man was charged with causing a fire in a tenement house in Zduńska Wola. Two people died in it, five more were taken to the hospital, where one of them died. The suspect faces up to 15 years in prison.
A fire in the attic of a multi-storey tenement house at 55 Łaska Street in Zduńska Wola broke out last Friday (January 13) after midnight. A total of 11 fire brigades participated in the firefighting operation, 20 people were evacuated, five of them were hospitalized. Firefighters also found the bodies of two people inside the building.
Charges of causing the fire against a 33-year-old
– At the scene, activities were carried out with the participation of an expert in the field of fire, and witnesses were interviewed. After gathering evidence, 33-year-old Robert S. was charged with causing an event that threatened the lives and health of many people and property in a large size in the form of a fire, as a result of which two people died on the spot, and five required hospitalization, one of whom died in the hospital, the spokeswoman for the District Prosecutor’s Office in Sieradz told PAP on Tuesday, prosecutor Jolanta Szkilnik. She added that the suspect confessed to the charge, explaining that his intention was not to take anyone’s life. He is facing up to 15 years in prison.
Robert S. committed the act in the conditions of multiple recidivism, which is why the District Prosecutor’s Office in Zduńska Wola applied for his temporary arrest. The court imposed this measure for 3 months.
