The regulation extending the zero VAT on food until the end of 2023 was published in the Journal of Laws. Among the products with zero VAT rate are: meat and fish, milk and dairy products, eggs, natural honey, nuts, vegetables and fruits.

The regulation of the Minister of Finance amending the regulation on reduced rates of tax on goods and services in 2023 was published in the “Dziennik Ustaw” on Wednesday.

As indicated, zero rate applies VAT for food has been extended from June 30, 2023 to December 31, 2023.

The products with a zero VAT rate include: meat and fish and their preparations; milk and dairy products; eggs; natural honey; nuts; vegetables and fruits and their preserves; edible animal and vegetable fats; cereals and cereal preparations, including bread and pastry; certain formulas and milk for infant and child nutrition and dietary foods for special medical purposes.

The zero VAT rate on food was an element of the second Anti-Inflation Shield, under which VAT rates on fuels and electricity were reduced. The tax cuts related to energy carriers expired at the end of 2022, but the zero VAT rate on food was extended until June 2023.

According to the Minister of Finance, Magdalena Rzeczkowska, thanks to the introduction of the zero VAT rate on food in 2022, over PLN 8.5 billion remained in the wallets of citizens. “In the first half of 2023, it is about PLN 6 billion. We estimate that in the second half of 2023, it means further savings of over PLN 5 billion” – indicated the head of the Ministry of Finance.

The regulation enters into force on June 30, 2023.
