After the fire of the hall with hazardous waste in the village of Przylep, Lubuskie environmental protection inspectors recommended the construction of another dam on the Gęśnik River. In this way, VIEP wants to prevent the further spread of extinguishing waters. Earlier, inspectors confirmed that the river was contaminated.

VIEP in Zielona Góra announced on Twitter on Saturday evening that the Lubuskie Voivodeship Environmental Protection Inspector recommended the location of another dam on Gęśnik as close as possible to the fire area. “These actions prevent the further spread of extinguishing waters” – it was emphasized.

A fire in the hall in Przylepa, where dangerous substances were stored, broke out last Saturday. In the evening of the next day, it was reported that the firefighting operations had ended. A total of 376 firefighters, 107 vehicles and two aircraft took part in the operation.

Contamination of the Gęśnik River after a fire in a hall with chemicals

The Mayor of Zielona Góra, Janusz Kubicki, informed that after the fire of the hall with hazardous waste in the village of Przylep in Przylepie, the Gęśnik River was polluted by firefighting waters.

On Friday, the Lubuskie WIOŚ published a document with the results of water tests from Gęśnik. “The waters of the river collected at the height of Zielona Góra – Przylep confirm their contamination by extinguishing waters” – we read in the information posted on social media.

“LWIOŚ ordered the continuation of water and soil sampling at the existing points and extended the monitoring to further water and soil sampling sites” – environmental protection inspectors noted on Saturday.

Also on Saturday, the mayor of Zielona Góra announced that 66 tons of hazardous waste had already been removed from the place of the fire in the village of Przylep.

The District Prosecutor’s Office in Zielona Góra has initiated an investigation into the fire in the hall in Przylepa. The proceedings were initiated in connection with a fire and an explosion of flammable substances by causing a threat to the health and life of people and property of great value. It is punishable by up to eight years in prison.
