Two volunteer firefighters died in a car accident that occurred on Friday morning in Żukowo (Pomeranian Voivodeship). The guys were on their way to another accident that occurred in the nearby town of Małkowo. One person died there.
The information about the two accidents was confirmed by Asst. Karolina Jędrzejczak from the District Police Headquarters in Kartuzy. The firefighters’ accident occurred around 3:40 a.m.
– Preliminary police findings show that the Żukowo Volunteer Fire Department were on their way to an accident in Małków. Most likely, when arriving at the scene of the incident, the driver of the fire truck wanted to avoid the island and hit the trailer of a truck traveling in the same direction. A fire truck overturned. As a result of this accident, two people died, they were Volunteer Fire Department droogs, she said.
– Police officers from Kartuzy, police officers from the road traffic department from Gdańsk, an investigation team and a police psychologist are working on site – said the policewoman.
Asp. Karolina Jędrzejczak informed that one person died as a result of an accident in Małków, to which firefighters were heading. The circumstances of this incident are being investigated.
National road number 20 is blocked. There is a detour through the town of Pępowo.
