ZUS forecasts the Social Insurance Fund deficit in '25 at the level of PLN 80.1 billion, in '29 – PLN 115.3 billion

The Social Insurance Institution forecasts the deficit of the Social Insurance Fund in 2025 at the level of PLN 80.1 billion in the intermediate variant, and in 2029 at the level of PLN 115.3 billion. ZUS points out the need to continue funding the Fund from the state budget.

The Social Insurance Fund (FUS) is a state fund whose funds it administers Social Insurance Institution. The following are paid from FUS funds: pensions and pensions.

ZUS on “deficit trends”

“In the years 2025–2029, the Social Insurance Fund (FUS) remains stable, but shows deficit tendencies. This means that it is necessary to continue to supply it with, among others, a subsidy from the state budget,” wrote the ZUS press material.

The forecast shows that the annual balance of the Social Insurance Fund is negative throughout the entire forecast period.

The latest forecast also shows that in the intermediate variant the annual deficit of the Social Insurance Fund in 2025 in relation to GDP will be 2.2 percent (in discounted amounts inflation in 2023 it will amount to PLN 80.1 billion), and in 2029 it will be 2.8%. GDP (in inflation-discounted amounts for 2023 will amount to PLN 115.3 billion).

In the intermediate variant, the number of people covered by retirement and disability insurance increases in 2025, but decreases in the following forecast years. The number of insured people in 2029 compared to 2025 is lower by 236,000. (decrease by 1.4%).
