The police from Żyrardów (Mazowieckie) detained a 21-year-old man suspected of fatally hitting an 83-year-old man. Immediately after the incident, the driver drove away without rendering aid to the victim. He faces up to 12 years in prison.

The tragic accident took place on Monday, March 6, around 6:30 p.m. at the intersection of Mireckiego and Ossowskiego streets. An 83-year-old pedestrian was hit by a passenger car driver. The man died and the driver left the scene without rendering aid to the victim.

– Police investigators have been working intensively for several days. Based on the traces secured at the scene of the accident, they determined the make and type of the perpetrator’s vehicle and the damage to the car. All vehicles of the selected brand, registered in the Żyrardów poviat, were checked. Records from the monitoring cameras were also secured and subjected to a detailed analysis, said Patrycja Sochacka from the Poviat Police Headquarters in Żyrardów.

Two charges against the 21-year-old

The policewoman added that the actions taken four days after the accident led the officers to a 21-year-old resident of the Wiskitki commune. The man admitted to the 83-year-old. – The car he was driving when he fatally hit the 83-year-old was revealed on his property and then secured for the case. Experts in the field of automotive technology and reconstruction of road accidents took part in the activities, who unequivocally confirmed the participation of the secured vehicle in the event – Sochacka pointed out.

The 21-year-old was charged with causing death in an accident and failing to render assistance. He faces 12 years in prison. The man was temporarily arrested.
