On Friday around At 4:00 p.m. training began before the World Cup competitions in Wisła. Paweł Wąsek may have been the most satisfied, taking 9th place in the first session. The rest of our team members performed much worse. Still, these were only test jumps. Emotions definitely increased during qualifying. These started a few minutes after 18:00.
This is how Poles jumped in the qualifications in Wisła. Who will take part in Saturday's competition?
Let us remind you that due to the fact that the third weekend of the World Cup takes place in Poland, we could field as many as nine competitors in the qualifying round. For this reason, the following people took part in training and qualifications: Paweł Wąsek, Aleksander Zniszczoł, Dawid Kubacki, Kamil Stoch, Jakub Wolny and Maciej Kot, Kacper Juroszek, Andrzej Stękała and Piotr Żyła. The last of them made a great jump in qualifying! Żyła flew as much as 130 meters, thanks to which he immediately secured promotion to Saturday's competition and remained in the leading position for a long time. His smile on his face says it all. Ultimately he took 7th place.
The sad news was the disqualification of Kacper Juroszek. It's all because of the irregular jumpsuit. Maciej Kot did quite well, reaching 121.5 meters. Maciej Kot achieved four meters less. Jakub Wolny also qualified for the main competition. Our team member landed at 117.5 meters.
Then on the ski jumping hill. Adam Małysz was jumped in the qualifications by other Poles. Kamil Stoch was the 41st out of the 67-person starting list. The three-time individual Olympic champion reached 114 meters. Although this distance seems not very satisfactory, it can be considered acceptable in the case of extremely heavy snowfall. At least Stoch qualified without any major problems. Just like Dawid Kubacki and Aleksander Zniszczoł, who landed on the 120th and 112th meters respectively. The last of the red and white players on the beam was Paweł Wąsek. 110.5 meters also allowed us to advance to Saturday's competition.
Friday's qualification was won by Austrian Daniel Tschofenig (131.5 m). The second was the Swiss Gregor Deschwanden (129.5 m), and the third was the German Pius Paschke (126.5 m). Seven of our representatives qualified. Andrzej Stękala and the disqualified Kacper Juroszek failed in this attempt.
Here are the qualification results for Saturday's competition in Wisła:
- 1. Daniel Tschofenig – 131.5 m
- 2. Gregor Deschwanden – 129.5 m
- 3. Pius Paschke – 126, 5 m
