Szczecin policemen transported a helicopter with a helicopter to the Gdańsk hospital, where a 31-year-old patient was waiting for a transplant. The flight lasted about 40 minutes.
On March 14, the crew of a police helicopter transported a heart from Szczecin to Gdańsk. Commissioner Mirosława Rudzińska from the Provincial Police Headquarters in Szczecin reported that the action was planned, so it gave time to prepare properly. “The flight lasted about 40 minutes, the weather conditions were favorable,” she added.

Marta Gallas, transplant coordinator from the University Clinical Center in Gdańsk, said that the time from taking the body to transplanting it is very limited, especially in the case of a heart transplant. – From the moment of downloading to its implantation, surgeons have only four hours. In this situation, a maximum of two and a half hours is planned for transport – she added.
The 31-year-old surgery, who was waiting for a new organ since January, went well and the patient is recovering.
From 2021, acting in cooperation with medical facilities and transplant coordinators, police pilots have already made over 50 flights of this type.
