Night Drivers Crew – literally translated: “crew of night drivers”. This is another informal group that organizes illegal races under the guise of meeting motoring enthusiasts. We got to know the group's operation scheme and how he tries to lose police patrols.
On the night of Saturday to Sunday in Warsaw and the surrounding poviats, two large automotive zlotys were organized, whose permanent element is dangerous driving and illegal races. The well -known Warsaw Night Racing organization was responsible for preparing the first event. There is another informal group in her shade: Night Drivers Crew. On Saturday evening, her leaders invited automotive enthusiasts to the parking lot of the shopping center in Łomianki, then carefully selected people received invitations to illegally prosecution, which we observed up close.
At the rally guests from other cities
The diagram of racing organizations by Night Drivers Crew (NDC) has been directly copied from the largest group of Warsaw Night Racing in the country, which has been preparing meetings for at least 15 years, during which the law is broken. The 24-year-old, heading the NDC, was closely associated with the WNR leader for many years. Until recently, they both posed together for photos at the rallies. As we agreed, a quarrel for finance and leadership in the organization led to division and, as a consequence, the establishment of a competitive group – as dangerous and unpunished in activities.

“The crew of night drivers” – in the model WNR – an invitation to the rally posted in social media. Another duplicated idea is to sell gadgets at rallies with the logo of the organization: leashes for 20 zlotys, sweatshirts for 230 zlotys. The offer also includes bands, registration plates frames and fragrances for the interior of the cars.
Groups from Opole and Jelcz joined the event in Łomianki, and guests from Łódź also appeared. In total, the event gathered about 40 vehicles. A small number of participants is a fundamental difference between two feuded organizations. Even a thousand vehicles reach the WNR zlotys, but it is not a matter of more popularity, but the conscious action of Night Drivers Crew leaders.
Discretion and verification
After official part in front of the shopping center, a less official one began, intended for selected people. The key to further participation in the rally is to gain access to the group messenger with information about subsequent locations. It is also an idea taken from WNR, except that the creators of the NDC are very careful to provide electronic code.
Those willing to prosecute have to undergo several degrees of verification, its basic element is the appropriate age of the candidate: about 20-25 years. It is also necessary to present a car and an Instagram account. However, fulfillment of these conditions does not guarantee joining the group – often the codes are made available to a very limited extent and according to the leader's preferences.

First of all, it is about confusing policemen from both roadside and working out illegal races. If officers do not have information about the next step of the rally participants, then they cannot prevent illegal prosecution.
On Saturday, the participants of the rally in Łomianki around 23 set off towards Warsaw. The column created by dozens of cars moved the southern beltway of Warsaw, including the tunnel near Ursynów and the S8 route, blocking all lanes. Most drivers rode according to the regulations, blocking and slowing down traffic for this type of rally is the lightest burden of offenses.
Racing in Radzymin
After midnight, the coordinates of the Racing Place went to a small group of trusted people around the NDC: the heroines of Radzymin 1920 in Radzymin. A two -lane long and simple route, whose road is separated by a barrier. A place not accidental for many reasons. At the same time, the WNR rally took place in Warsaw with permanent racing seats at Straight: Wirażowa at the Cargo terminal or S8 service road in Sękocin Stary. Points constantly monitored by policemen. The location in Radzymin is a new seat on the map of rallies.

The races we observed took place in a traditional formula that is part of illegal street races. The signal to start is given by a person standing in the middle of the road, two vehicles in front of them. The one who has more engine power and better acceleration wins. Along the road, the other participants of the rally are set up, ordinary traffic participants disorganized, wanting to pass through the place of illegal meeting.
The rally ended before 2 am. No police patrol arrived in Radzymin.
Helplessness of the police and the prosecutor's office
At the beginning of February, we described the incomprehensible decision of the Żolibor prosecutor's office, which refused to initiate investigations in the case of the Warsaw Night Racing leaderresponsible – according to Warsaw policemen – for organizing illegal street races. Police officers, after several months of operational work, wanted a man to answer for organizing a mass event without a permit. This crime described in art. 58 of the Act on the safety of mass events, for which he faces up to eight years in prison.
Poznan policemen benefited from this provision, who in cooperation with the prosecutor's office, led to the conviction of the organizers of the rally in Komorniki. Investigators' activities proved to be very effective. Since the charges, no illegal large car event in Greater Poland has been held.

They write fines, wait for changes in the law
Traditionally, police officers also appeared at the Saturday rallies (except for Radzymin). “The effect of interventions taken (…) at various points of Warsaw was the control of 132 vehicles. Policemen imposed 79 penalty fines on the sum of PLN 42,200 (which gives an average of PLN 534 per mandate – ed.)” – officers summed up the action. In addition, the police detained seven driving licenses and nine registration documents, and also detained a driver who conducted despite the rights withdrawn.
Controls and fines are so far the only method to fight illegal races. Work has been underway for several months to introduce changes to the Road Code, currently neither the Police Headquarters nor the National Prosecutor's Office has prepared guidelines on how investigators are to treat illegal car events.

A new type of crime is to be defined in the new regulations: organization and participation in illegal car races, for which he will be punishable by three months to five years imprisonment. A similar penalty will be the opposite of driving outside the illegal race, but in a daring, i.e. with a gross violation of land traffic safety rules, exceeding the permissible speed at least by half on the highway or expressway or at least twice on a different road and creating a threat to the safety of another person.
The new regulations are to begin to apply in the second half of the year, but there are no specifics at the moment.
