With the dust still setting on the 2022 Masters, it’s not too long until the next major championship of the year takes place, with the PGA Championship returning to the Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Whilst the event does not quite have the same level of prestige as the Masters, it is every golfer’s dream to get their hands on a major title, and that means all the top players will be giving it their all when the action gets underway on May 19th.
With just weeks to go until the first ball is struck, let’s have a look at some of the tournament favourites according to the Betdaq bet exchange.
Scottie Scheffler
It’s no surprise to see Scottie Scheffler’s name at the top of the list after his heroics at the Masters. The 25-year-old produced a brilliant display to win the tournament by three strokes, and donned his maiden green jacket as a result.
Scheffler’s rise to the top has been fast and furious. He only secured his first PGA Tour title back in February, but now counts four titles to his name including the aforementioned Masters. He’ll head to Oklahoma with a huge amount of confidence for the PGA Championship, and you wouldn’t bet against him producing his best form once again.
Jon Rahm
Those wondering how does a betting exchange work when it comes to golf tournaments will have to get used to seeing Jon Rahm’s name get plenty of action. The Spaniard has been one of the standout players over the last few years, and earned his first major title in 2021 at the US Open.
After a relatively disappointing outing at the Masters, Rahm will be keen to make amends at the PGA Championship, and he’ll certainly be one to watch out for across the four days.
Rory McIlroy
Many golf fans have been questioning whether Rory McIlroy will ever have what it takes to earn his fifth major title – a first since 2014 – but there were signs at Augusta that the Northern Irishman could be building towards something special. He carded an eight-under-par round of 64 on the final day of the Masters, which was enough to earn him a second-place finish.
As he heads to the PGA Championship, the key for McIlroy will be the first two days of play. So often, he rules himself out of contention in the majors with poor performances in the first couple of rounds. That needs to change, and with confidence gained from his Masters heroics, McIlroy may well fancy the job.
Justin Thomas
It’s been a strange year or so for Justin Thomas since he won the 2021 Players Championship, and it’s fair to say he hasn’t really done himself justice in the last few majors. He didn’t threaten the leaders in any of the four big ones last year, but a tied-for-eighth finish at this year’s Masters should give him a bit of confidence heading to Southern Hills.
When on top form, Thomas is one of the best players in the world, and his close relationship with Tiger Woods could help him to find the key to winning major championships more consistently.
