The fight between Artur Szpilka and Arkadiusz Wrzosek at the KSW 94 gala at the ERGO Arena in Gdańsk was one of the most famous, but it was a disappointment. The fight lasted only 14 seconds. The latter won the fight by technical knockout. – It's hard to say anything. It's a pity, because the preparations were really great, everything was great, and then one punch… But that's how it works. Sometimes I win, sometimes I lose. Unfortunately, today it didn't work out – Szpilka said while talking to journalists.
On May 31 this year, Szpilka informed fans that he had been taken to the Emergency Department due to foot swelling, and three days later he was already hospitalized. “The next three days in hospital, no… But oh well, there's no way out. Some big bacteria, they're still doing a culture and they'll see what it is. The whole leg is so inflamed, it's f***ed up” – Szpilka said on InstaStories.
Szpilka told about the nightmare infection. “I really don't feel like laughing”
At the beginning of June, Szpilka revealed that he had been infected with Staphylococcus aureus. Now, in an interview with Andrzej Kostyra, the 35-year-old revealed that he unfortunately became infected with the virus several years ago during an operation in a Warsaw clinic.
– After losing the fight with Arek Wrzosek, I was very nervous. I woke up at 3-4 am and couldn't sleep anymore, I also caught a temperature, my body weakened and the staphylococcus woke up. I didn't come close to death, you can't say that, but I was close to sepsis, and you know how it is with sepsis. I couldn't walk, I was lying down, so I started reading various things on the subject and it got to me even more. Today I try to smile, but I don't really feel like laughing because my leg still hurts – he said.
Although he left the hospital a few weeks ago, he still feels pain. – First, I was given antibiotics intravenously for two weeks four times a day, and now I'm taking them four times a day, but orally. I asked for a longer treatment for 2-3 weeks to definitely put this staph to sleep. The doctors say that it's supposedly ok now, the bacteria has gone to sleep again, but I still feel a lot of discomfort. I also decided to use natural help, oregano oil. It's disgusting, but I try everything. I've had 11 surgeries under full anesthesia, and now this staph, but I believe that the worst is behind me – he concluded.
