New rules for importing passenger cars registered in Belarus to Poland are in force from July 1, the Ministry of Finance reminded in a statement. It explained that only cars belonging to natural persons can enter Poland, if they are not used for commercial purposes.
In Monday's announcement Ministry of Finance reminded that as of July 1 this year, new rules apply to the import of passenger cars registered in Poland Belarus. This is the result of an amendment to the regulation of the Council of the European Union concerning “restrictive measures in view of the situation in Belarus and Belarus' participation in Russia's aggression against Ukraine”.
Who is affected by the car import ban?
The announcement added that the regulation extended the scope of existing sanctions and broadened the list of entities to which the amended provisions should apply.
“The addressees of the prohibitive norms on import and export are not only entrepreneurs, but also individuals moving goods purchased in retail. The list of new goods covered by sanctions has been published in the annexes to the regulation,” we read.
The ministry explained that the regulations introduced “a ban on the import or transfer to the EU, directly or indirectly, of goods that allow Belarus to diversify its sources of income and thus enable it to participate in Russia's aggression against Ukraine”. “Article 1ra of this regulation also applies to passenger cars registered in the territory of Belarus. However, the competent authorities may allow, on the terms they deem appropriate, the entry of passenger vehicles not intended for sale and owned by, among others, a citizen of Belarus who has a valid visa or a valid residence permit allowing entry to the European Union, entering the Union in a vehicle that is used exclusively for personal use (…)” – it was reported.
Car owners can enter Poland
The ministry explained that in the case of cars registered in Belarus, which are owned by individuals and are used only as a means of transport, it is allowed to enter the territory of Poland cars driven by the owner of the vehicle or in which the owner of the vehicle is staying. In addition, these cars cannot be used to transport goods for commercial purposes or otherwise used for purposes violating the introduced restrictions.
