Italy is preparing for the impact of the African anticyclone Charon. It will bring another heat wave with temperatures reaching 40 degrees in cities. The heat attack, which was expected to last until the end of July, will also plague the country in August.

The African anticyclone Charon is returning this weekend, Italian meteorologists said. According to forecasts, the heat will cover all of Italy, from the city of Bolzano in the north to the islands in the south.

“In Greek mythology, Charon was tasked with carrying the souls of the dead across the rivers Styx and Acheron. Now the anticyclone of the same name is ready to transport us to the heart of the increasingly hot summer, also due to climate change,” writes the portal milanopavia.news.

Heat warnings

On Friday, the second heat alert on a three-level, ascending scale is to be in effect in six cities, including Florence, Perugia, Rome, and Palermo. On Saturday, the Ministry of Health announced this orange alert for twelve cities.

The authorities remind people to drink plenty of water on hot days, avoid going outside during the hottest times of the day, especially in the case of children and the elderly, and, if possible, seek a cool environment.

It will be exceptionally hot from Sunday: thermometers may show 40 degrees in Rome, Florence and Terni.

According to Italian meteorologists, the severe heat wave is expected to last at least until August 10.
