A 5.0 magnitude earthquake has struck Texas. The event occurred Friday morning local time. The activity was recorded very shallow underground, making it felt over a fairly wide area.
According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the event occurred on Friday morning (after 4 p.m. in Poland). The epicenter of the 5.0 magnitude quake was located 13 kilometers northeast of the city of Hermleigh.
A series of shocks lasting several days
According to local media, small tremors could be felt in the cities of Lubbock, Odessa, Midland, Abilene and San Angelo, which are located relatively far from the epicenter. The tremors occurred at a shallow depth of only 3.3 km (2.1 miles) and were probably easier to notice.
This is not the only quake to hit Hermleigh. A few minutes later, a 3.2-magnitude quake followed, followed by a 2.6-magnitude quake on Thursday morning. The region has been experiencing increased seismic activity for several days, with a 4.9-magnitude quake near the same area on Monday evening, followed by aftershocks, including one at 4.4.
