The owner of a dog that bit another man in the thigh in Słupca (Wielkopolska Province) last Thursday has been charged with causing bodily harm, as reported by Senior Warrant Officer Marlena Kukawska of the local police. The dog died after being stabbed by the wounded man.
The incident took place last Thursday in Słupca. The police were called to the area near the intersection of Kilińskiego and Kopernika streets, where a fight between two couples had allegedly broken out. At around 9:30 p.m., the couple and their dog passed a bench where a man and a woman were sitting in conflict with them.
– Initial findings indicate that they had a quarrel, as a result of which the dog's owner removed the dog's muzzle, and the dog first grabbed the other man by the shirt with his teeth and then bit him on the thigh. The bitten man explained that in self-defense he took a knife out of his pocket and used it – explained Staff Sergeant Marlena Kukawka from the Słupca police.
A veterinarian was called to the scene. He found two puncture wounds, one of which had ruptured an artery, causing the dog to bleed heavily. The dog could not be saved.
“Contributed to bodily harm”
The Słupca police investigating the case decided to press charges against the dog's owner. “His behavior contributed to the injury of another man by removing the dog's muzzle, loosening the leash and setting the dog on fire,” Kukawka said. The man faces up to two years in prison for this.
The suspect was placed under police supervision. No decisions have yet been made regarding whether to bring charges against the man who stabbed the dog. – The proceedings are ongoing – Kukawka said.
