Mayor of Prudnik Grzegorz Zawiślak called on the residents of Moszczanka, Łąka Prudnicka and the part of Prudnik adjacent to the Prudnik River to evacuate. It is better to lose property than life – he said.
As reported by Grzegorz Zawiślak, the mayor of Prudnik, the flood situation in the commune is very uncertain. In some places, water is overflowing the embankments protecting the bed of Złoty Potok, near which lie the towns of Łąka Prudnicka and Moszczanka. The Prudnik River, which flows through part of the city, is also very high. “I have ordered the evacuation of all residents who live near Złoty Potok and the Prudnik River. Forecasts from the Czech Republic indicate more rainfall that may flow to our side of the border,” said Zawiślak. The local government official appealed to all those who still do not know whether to take advantage of the possibility of evacuation from places at risk of flooding to comply with the recommendations of the services. “It is better to lose your property than your health or life,” he said. At the same time, he assured that compensation procedures will be launched as soon as possible. According to information provided by the mayor, in areas where there is a risk to residents and rescuers and which are flooded, electricity supplies will be cut off.
Evacuation in the region
The mayor of Głuchołazy (Opole Province) also appealed to the residents of the city and lower-lying villages, who live within 200 meters of the river, to self-evacuate. Due to the growing flood threat, some residents had already been evacuated earlier. – Biała Głuchołaska has never been so high, and the water is still rising. There is practically no gap between the river and the structure of the temporary bridge on national road no. 40 in Głuchołazy. There is a real risk that the water will damage the bridge, overflow the embankments. Due to the topography, if this happens, it will be able to return to its bed only after flooding Bodzanów and Świętów. Therefore, I appeal to all residents of the areas at risk to consider going to their families, friends, to a safe place as soon as possible. When the alarm sirens sound, it may be too late – said the mayor of the city, Paweł Szymkowicz.
