Florida police have detained a man who was carrying an AK-47 rifle. He appeared near Donald Trump on a golf course in Palm Beach. They were about 400 yards apart. Secret Service agents fired shots at him. The FBI is treating the detainee as a potential attacker.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation said in a statement quoted by CNN that the agency is “investigating what appears to be an attempted assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump.” According to available information, a man in his 50s was detained near the Palm Beach golf course where Trump was playing, carrying an AK-47-style rifle.
Secret Service agents fired shots at him, and he fled. He was arrested shortly thereafter.
There was about 400 meters between the detainee and Trump when the Secret Service agents noticed him, the services said.
Donald Trump he heard the shots. He later posted on social media that he was unharmed.
