Volleyball players help save Nysa

The portal remiza.com describes the situation on Monday evening in Nysa as a general uprising. “Nysa is defending itself. Literally a “general uprising” of residents, the army, firefighters, police and other services,” we read.

Among the people helping are volleyball players and employees of Stal Nysa. The latter was supposed to play Asseco Resovia in Rzeszów this weekend, but the match was canceled. The first home clash in the PlusLiga was also postponed, when Stal was to face Skra Bełchatów..

The volleyball players themselves wanted to return to the city and immediately start helping all those in need. And now all the residents of Nysa need support to reduce the losses that another culminating wave may cause as much as possible.

The flood embankments in Nysa have been breached, residents, services and the team are working hard to repair the embankment and create any protection against the elements. There is a serious risk that the water will flood the entire city.

“We are here and fighting for Nysa! Among the people who are helping to strengthen the levee in our city are, among others, the president of our club, the director, the coach and the statistician. Keep your fingers crossed! Every pair of hands is worth their weight in gold… and Nysa!” – we read in Stal's Twitter post. The club attached photos and a video from the place where the levee was being repaired. The recording shows Daniel Pliński pouring sand to fill the bags that can be used to strengthen the levees.

Contact with the volleyball player has been restored

A few hours earlier, Stal CEO Robert Prygiel informed that the club has no contact with one of its players. Despite this, there was peace that it would be possible to contact him.

– We have signals from the majority volleyball playersthat it's OK. However, there is no contact with two team representatives – a staff member and a player who live permanently in Nysa. We know that their properties have suffered a lot of damage, so they are still fighting the elements. I assume that they may not have electricity – he said in an interview with TVP Sport.

Under the posts about the shaft repair, one of fans asked about the situation with the player. The club gave very good news about him.

“Yes, the situation is now under control. There was no electricity and/or telephone coverage in the flooded parts of the city,” we read.

For the residents of Nysa players and Stal employees are already heroes. Residents of southern Poland can receive help from other regions of the country. There are collections on the Internet to help flood victims. Cities that are not affected by the element are organizing collections of food and cleaning products for flood victims.
