The Czech fire department published a video of the operation, during which firefighters saved three children from the rising water. The service emphasized that the minors were holding on “only to a tree branch”. “Are you wondering how you can help in these difficult days? Follow our instructions and do not take risks,” the firefighters appealed on the X portal.

The fire department from the Hradec Králové region reported on Sunday that it had intervened in Broumov, right on the border with Poland. The post on the X platform says that “three minors” “fell into a swollen stream and were only holding on to a tree branch.” A rescue helicopter was sent to the scene, but firefighters managed to save the children before it arrived, the Czech news portal CNN Prima News reported. Two minors were taken to hospital.

The fire department attached a nearly minute-long recording of the intervention to the post. “Are you wondering how you can help in these difficult days? Follow our instructions and don't take risks,” the fire department appealed on the X portal. According to local media, the Broumov region faced the effects of extreme flooding on Sunday. That day, part of the Broumov commune was flooded with water from the Åšcinawka River, a tributary of the Nysa KÅ‚odzka.

Flood in the Czech Republic

At the request of Defense Minister Jana ÄŒernochová, the government decided on Monday evening at an extraordinary meeting on the possibility of using 2,000 soldiers to help eliminate the effects of the flood. Meteorologists believe that although the water is still dangerous, extreme rainfall no longer threatens the country. Only in the south Czech there may be heavy rainfall, which may affect the hydrological situation. The water in flooded areas is slowly receding. In the entire country, there are no longer places that were previously designated as “threatened with extreme floods”. Those with the standard third flood alert level remain.

Late on Monday evening, firefighters, police officers and sappers managed to limit the flow of water from the Odra, which, after breaking the embankments at the mouth of the Opava, flooded one of Ostrava's districts in the morning. Through this breach in the embankments, water poured into the Przywóz district, from where 530 people were evacuated. The houses of the flood victims are standing in water that in some places reaches two meters, and it threatened not only apartment blocks, because Przywóz and the neighboring districts are the industrial heart of Ostrava. There is a coking plant, chemical plant and a heat and power plant there.
