Due to the seepage of the embankments on the Bóbr River, National Road No. 12 from Bolesławiec to Szprotawa was closed. The mayor of the town, Mirosław Gąsik, informed that the fight for the sewage treatment plant in nearby Dziećmiarowice is ongoing. – The embankments there gave way, despite intensive defense – he added.
– The great flood came to Szprotawa at 6 a.m. on Tuesday and systematically rose. Around 7 p.m. the situation stabilized and the water stopped rising – said the mayor of Szprotawa, Mirosław Gąsik, in the evening program “Dzień po dzień” on TVN24. He explained that the peak wave reached the same height as in 1997.
– The situation is under control. We are conducting intensive defense of strategic places from the point of view of the life of our commune, i.e. water treatment plants. An hour ago there was a fairly high risk of cutting off electricity. Fortunately, we managed to deliver specialist pumps – he indicated.
The mayor reported that the fight for the sewage treatment plant in a nearby town is also ongoing. “The levees there gave way, despite intensive defense,” he added.
Closed national road
Earlier, the DK12 from Bolesławiec to Szprotawa was closed due to the seepage of the embankments on the Bóbr River. – The decision to close the road was made for safety reasons – said junior brigadier Arkadiusz Kaniak, spokesman for the Lubuskie fire department.
– This concerns the section from Widok Street in Wiechlice to the intersection with the roads to Wiechlice and Dziećmiarowice – explained Sławomir Pawlak, director of the Lubusz Voivode's office.
Police in Szprotawa are directing cars to a detour through Wiechlice. From the direction of Dziećmiarowice there are also policemen directing traffic.
Due to the rising water level of the Bóbr River, the bridge on Młynarska Street and the bridge on 3 Maja Street were closed. – The water has overflowed the bridges and is flooding the roads – Pawlak added.
