Oleśnica. The police solved the case of a man's disappearance from years ago. He died after being hit by a car

The man's disappearance was reported to the police a few days after his disappearance in September 2017 by the 65-year-old's family, concerned about his long absence. The man had trouble moving, and according to his relatives, he had never left home for such a long time before.

The police carried out an extensive search, checking the surrounding area, a nearby pond and questioning residents. Despite intensive efforts, the missing person was not found.

“The police returned to the case and checked the various information they received. A breakthrough occurred a few days ago,” said Asp. in a statement on Thursday. Joanna Szczepaniak from the Staszów police.

The officers determined that the 65-year-old had been hit by a Land Rover. It was driven by a 49-year-old man at the time. There was also a 48-year-old passenger in the vehicle. The findings show that both of them decided to conceal the accident. They took the hit pedestrian to the forest, where they buried his body.

The driver of the Land Rover, now a 56-year-old man, was detained on September 27 in the Staszów district. He was charged with driving a vehicle contrary to a court ban, causing a fatal accident, fleeing the scene of an accident and insulting a corpse. He faces a sentence of up to 12 years in prison. The passenger, now 55, was detained two days later in Częstochowa. He will be charged with insulting a corpse and supporting a corpse, for which he faces up to 5 years in prison.

By court decision, both men were temporarily arrested for three months.
