Three months after the tragic accident, the prosecutor's office brings charges against the truck driver. According to investigators, he is responsible for the death of the train driver.
July 1 this year A tragic accident occurred on Ceramiczna Street in Ożarów Mazowiecki at a marked railway crossing. The truck collided with a Koleje Mazowieckie train and the driver was killed. An investigation was initiated. Now the prosecutor's office has reported on the progress.
As Piotr Skiba, spokesman for the District Prosecutor's Office in Warsaw, told us, the case is being handled by the District Prosecutor's Office in Pruszków. Investigators have just charged the truck driver with causing a fatal accident.
– The driver entered the crossing even though he was unable to continue driving – the spokesman told us. The truck got stuck between the toll gates and the driver was unable to get out. The train then hit the truck.
The man faces eight years in prison. He pleaded guilty.
They wanted changes at the crossing
Specialists from the State Commission for the Investigation of Railway Accidents also looked at the crossing after the accident. It was considered dangerous, so the speed was limited to 20 km/h.
The railway workers wanted to close the crossing, but then they postponed this decision. The mayor of Ożarów Mazowiecki, Paweł Chancellor, said it was arbitrary. He recalled that experts from the committee did not recommend PKP PLK to close the crossing. However, they imposed other obligations on the company, requiring urgent implementation.

Ultimately, the crossing will remain open. PKP PLK announced in a press release that from midnight, August 14-15, trains can run faster there.
