A fire broke out in halls in Sulechów (Lubusz Voivodeship) on Sunday. Due to the smoke, 93 people were evacuated from nearby blocks of flats, including two with disabilities. – The element appeared in halls that have not been used for years. The area of ​​the destroyed halls must be counted in hundreds of square meters, if not thousands – said senior captain Piotr Kowalski from the fire brigade in Zielona Góra.

The fire in the halls in Sulechów broke out on Sunday after 5 p.m. – The fire-fighting operation required calling 25 fire brigades, the total number of officers working on site exceeded one hundred – says senior captain. Kowalski. He reports that the flames appeared in halls that had not been used for years, but which contained the remains of a furniture factory located there.

– There were, among others, flammable materials such as foam, which caused the fire to spread very quickly – says the firefighter.

He added that there was heavy smoke, which forced the evacuation of 93 people, including two with disabilities. – The smoke was a threat to their health, so no other decision could be made. People living in two blocks of flats in the area of ​​the fire had to leave their houses – added the tvn24.pl interlocutor.

The situation is under control

The firefighter reports that three halls were destroyed. – Two of them were connected, so the element could easily spread further. I don't know the exact size of the destroyed halls yet, but their area should be counted in hundreds, if not thousands, of square meters – added Kowalski.

After 9:30 p.m. he reported that the situation was under control. – The fire is not spreading, the fire is being extinguished and will probably end at night – added the firefighter.

At this stage I do not want to indicate what could have caused the fire. – It was an unused place where no production had been carried out for years. The circumstances of this incident will be investigated by the police, the tvn24.pl interlocutor noted.

Outside the house

At this stage – as noted by the spokesman for the Zielona Góra firefighters – it is not known when the residents of the surrounding blocks will be able to return to their homes.

– There is a crisis management team on site, including representatives of the commune. Appropriate decisions will be made in the near future, but at the moment it is difficult for me to say anything more specific – said the firefighter.

Senior Captain Piotr Kowalski from the fire brigade in Zielona Góra noted that no one was hurt in the incident.
