A 42-year-old Pole disappeared off the coast of the island of Madeira in the Atlantic after going snorkeling. The man's wife alerted the services. After several hours of searching, the tourist was found. He was transported to hospital by a Portuguese Navy helicopter.
According to the Portuguese Maritime Police, the wife of the missing person alerted the local services, asking for help in finding a 42-year-old man who went diving with the so-called snorkeling (snorkeling).
The Madeira-based daily Diario de Noticias reported that after several hours of searching by several security institutions, the missing person was found near the shore of Seixal, in the north-west of the island.
He couldn't get to shore
The newspaper reported that the Pole, found on one of the rocky beaches of Madeira, could not get to safety because of high waves and darkness. It was added that contact with the missing person was established thanks to the use of modern technologies, including a drone.
In this way, he was given a first aid kit. It included, among others: a rescue cape thanks to which a Polish tourist could protect himself against hypothermia.
Rescuers found the missing person, and then the tourist was transported to land by a Portuguese Navy helicopter.
On Monday, a team of Madeira rescuers from Santa Cruz reported that the rescued Pole was taken to one of the hospitals on the island.
