Instead of slowing down, he accelerated. He escaped from the police by driving through a Lubusz village at a speed of over 160 kilometers per hour. It quickly turned out why – the car he was driving was stolen.
On Saturday, in Pławin (Lubusz Voivodeship), police officers driving an unmarked police car noticed a Volkswagen driving at excessive speed and wanted to stop its driver for inspection. However, he ignored the light and sound signals and instead slowed down, accelerated and started running away.
– One of the measurements indicated that an irresponsible driver was driving at over 163 kilometers per hour in built-up areas. Thanks to the policemen's great composure and professionalism, the chase did not last long. After several dozen seconds, it ended in the town of Stare Kurowo, where the uniformed officers effectively but safely forced the Volkswagen driver to stop – says senior midshipman Tomasz Bartos from the District Police Headquarters in Strzelce Krajeńskie.
He had plates from another car
The man was overpowered and detained. After checking, it turned out that the car he was escaping in had been stolen in the area a few days ago German. – He had license plates from another vehicle – said Bartos.
The 40-year-old was taken to the police detention center. He was charged with failing to stop at a road check and stealing, as well as driving with license plates from another vehicle. He faces up to 5 years in prison.
– The man will also be charged for exceeding the speed limit by more than 110 kilometers per hour in a built-up area. The officers have already suspended his driving license for three months, Bartos said. The recovered car, worth several dozen thousand zlotys, was secured in a police parking lot.
