Information about the possible launch date of the tram to Wilanów was first reported by Polskie Radio 24. The station said that it would take place on Monday, October 28. As we have unofficially determined, the indicated date is possible, but is not 100 percent certain yet.
In turn, when asked about the launch date of the new line, Tramwaje Warszawskie spokesman Witold Urbanowicz diplomatically replies that it will take place “at the turn of October and November.”
Rolling stock tests
Nine days ago The first trams appeared on a test basis in Miasteczko Wilanów: first the measurement squad, then the two-way Hyundai. Tram drivers checked, among others: correct installation and tension of the traction network. Particular attention was paid to the final terminal at Branickiego Street, where a complex system of tracks and turnouts was created. Tramwaje Warszawskie employees tested possible traffic situations – both planned and emergency. In total, there were over 100 different scenarios to test. traffic tests lasted until Tuesday.
– Yesterday (Tuesday – ed.) other types of trams were tested: two-way PES Jazz Duos and Swings. Trams vary in dimensions. We had to check how they behave on the new track. These models will also serve the line to Wilanów – Urbanowicz told us.
The bus was also tested on the route. Among other things, the following were checked: whether vehicles pass each other freely on a common section for trams and buses. – In the evening, we also checked the correct operation of the Passenger Information System – noted the spokesman for Tramwaje Warszawskie.
On Wednesday, there were no trams on the new route. – Budimex has to perform works that required disconnecting the voltage in the network – explained Urbanowicz.
The tram will run through the construction site
In the first months of operation of the route, trams will still pass the construction site. According to the assumptions, after all the works are completed, the tram from Wilanów to the center will transport passengers in 25 minutes.
There is still much work to be done along the line. Drivers will still use temporary crossings over the track. With the launch of the line, priority for trams will not be introduced at intersections. Officials announced that, according to the current schedule, work on the road system is to be completed at the turn of the third and fourth quarter of 2025.
The route to Miasteczko Wilanów will be served by two tram lines 14 and 16. In turn, its branch towards the Stegna loop will be run by trams number 19. This is to take place – according to recent announcements – next summer.
