The weather encourages trips to the mountains, but tourists should be careful. In the Tatra Mountains, the trails in the higher parts are icy and snow-covered. It may be slippery in places. Lifeguards appeal to plan trips wisely – darkness falls earlier and earlier.
In a statement published on Saturday, the Tatra National Park said that although the weather encourages mountain trips, Tatra Mountains above the upper forest line, tourist conditions are difficult. On the northern slopes and in shady places, in gullies, the trails are covered with ice and a thin layer of snow.
Let's plan our trips wisely
During trips, you should be especially careful when passing, among others: near the Siklawa waterfall or in the Morskie Oko area, because the stones are very slippery, especially in the morning. During the weekend, difficulties may occur in places where the trails are equipped with chains, because during heavy tourist traffic there are queues waiting to enter the peak.
TPN reminded that in accordance with the regulations, you can travel on the trails from dawn to dusk. The days are getting shorter now, so trips to the mountains should be planned to return before dark. It is also worth remembering that high-mountain border crossings with Slovakia will be open until October 31. Our southern neighbors, like every year, close some tourist trails for the winter to protect nature and safety.
Good conditions in the Beskids
According to the Beskid GOPR branch, conditions on mountain trails encourage walking in the Beskids. On Saturday morning, the thermometers were below 10 degrees, but there was little cloud cover and the temperature will rise during the day. Visibility is good. There are cable railways in the Beskids.
Tourists who go hiking in the mountains must be prepared for it. Sturdy footwear and a waterproof jacket are especially important. Remember to have an adequate supply of fluids. The phone should be charged and have the “Rescue” application installed. A flashlight may be useful because it gets dark faster and faster.
