Andrzej Duda on Donald Trump: he is the embodiment of an American hero

– In Europe, not everyone is used to this, and politicians are not used to conducting politics this way at all. I remember President Donald Trump talking to us at the summits NATOat meetings behind closed doors and what tough rhetoric he used then, and then it turned out that the decision could have been made faster – said the Polish president in an interview with the British newspaper “The Sunday Times”.

– For sure (Trump – ed.) will demand greater participation of allies, because he believes that United States they cannot bear the costs of securing the entire world, added Andrzej Duda.

According to Duda, Trump is the “embodiment of an American hero” and during the talks he shows no signs of cognitive decline. – He's the type of person who doesn't just go through life, he walks through life. He actually has extraordinary strength, the strength of a very tough and strong personality – he said.

Duda said that the United States “has a vital interest in strengthening our part of Europe,” noting multi-billion purchases of American military equipment, such as F-35 jets and HIMARS missile launchers.

– We're not just waiting for our allies to come to defend us. First of all, we are building our own readiness and our own defense, because we are a responsible ally, he emphasized.

He added that Project Shield Easti.e. the system of fortifications on the eastern border, the construction of which will begin soon, is a response to imperial plans Russia and compared it to the Iron Curtain during the Cold War.

– Some politicians in the West look at this with horror. The last thing they want to see is the rebuilding of the Iron Curtain. I will say this: if the safety of my compatriots is to be ensured by lifting the Iron Curtain again, then OK, there will be an Iron Curtain, as long as we are on the free side of it, he said.

Referring to the issue of immigration, Duda condemned Germany for introducing border controls at all its land borders. – It is very bad that Germany is closing its borders. First of all, from the Polish point of view and from the point of view of the atmosphere in Poland when it comes to support for the idea of ​​European integration. For Poles, the basic value of membership in the European Union is freedom, he said.

Duda also criticized the prime minister's plans Donald TuskTo temporarily suspend the right to submit asylum applications. – We used political asylum in Western European countries until 1989 – said the president, arguing that the changes proposed by Tusk would also affect political dissidents from countries such as Belarus. – We should simply guard the borders of the European Union very strongly from the very beginning and not open these borders to anyone who has heard the rumor that in the European Union there is money lying on the street – he said.

Tusk, justifying the decision to temporarily suspend the right to submit asylum applications, explained that the right to asylum “is exploited by (Alexander) Lukashenko, (Vladimir) Putin, by smugglers, people smugglers, people traffickers”.

“The temporary suspension of asylum applications was introduced in May in Finland. It is a response to the hybrid war declared on the entire EU (including primarily Poland) by the regimes in Moscow and Minsk, consisting in organizing mass transfers of people across our borders,” he wrote.

“The right to asylum is being used instrumentally in this war and has nothing to do with human rights. Border control and Poland's territorial security is and will be our priority. Our decisions and actions will be absolutely subordinated to this,” he added.

In the matter Ukraine Duda stated that Kiev must receive everything it needs to achieve complete victory in the defensive war with Russia – both for its own good and for all of Europe. Duda emphasized that giving Russia even an inch of Ukrainian territory would be a catastrophic mistake.

Asked whether, in the face of Russia's overwhelming numerical superiority, Ukraine can realistically regain all occupied territories, the Polish president said. – If you are so generous towards Russia, why don't you give them a piece of your own land? Why would any sovereign country please Russia? On what basis, I may ask, does Russia deserve anything – especially on foreign territory? – Duda asked rhetorically.
