Manchester United officially announced cooperation with Ruben Amorim. The Portuguese previously worked at Sporting. His previous employer had no problem with leaving. He knew that if Amorim wanted to develop, it had to move to a stronger league. He has been linked with Liverpool and West Ham United in the past. While in the context of “The Reds” these were only rumors, the “Hammers” authorities actually talked to Amorim and ultimately gave up the Portuguese in favor of the more experienced Julen Lopetegui.
The Old Trafford club announced the signing of a three-year contract with Amorim. “Manchester United is pleased to announce that Ruben Amorim has been appointed coach of the first men's team. He will work until June 2027 with an option to extend it for a year,” reads the official statement from MU.
Amorim is scheduled to start his new job on November 11. Manchester gave him time to complete the remaining formalities with Sporting and solve the work visa issue. Until then, Ruud van Nistelrooy, who already led the team in the English League Cup match against Leicester City (5:2), will serve as interim coach.

Ruben Amorim has been in charge of Sporting since March 2020. Over the last four years, he has won the Portuguese Championship twice, the Portuguese League Cup twice and the national Super Cup once. Previously, he worked for clubs such as Casa Pia and Braga, with whom he won the League Cup in 2020.
