An adviser to Iran's supreme spiritual and political leader said that although Ali Khamenei's religious decree has so far prevented the development of nuclear weapons, this could change if Iran's survival is at risk.

Nuclear doctrine Iran could change if the nation faces an “existential threat,” Kamal Charrazi, an adviser to Iran's supreme spiritual and political leader Ali Khamenei, said on Friday. He also announced a likely increase in the range of ballistic missiles.

Iran's nuclear doctrine

In a television interview, Charrazi admitted that Iran has the technical capacity to produce nuclear weapons and does not encounter any significant obstacles in this regard. He noted that although Khamenei's religious decree (fatwa) has so far prevented the development of nuclear weapons, this may change if Iran's survival is at risk.

According to the politician, if Western countries do not recognize Iran's concerns, especially regarding the country's sovereignty and territorial integrity, then Tehran will ignore the concerns of Western European countries.

Last week Israel carried out retaliatory airstrikes on targets in Iran, responding to Tehran's missile fire four weeks ago. During this attack, Israeli air forces were to destroy most of Iran's air defenses, including many radar stations, which would prevent a renewed attack by Iranian ballistic missiles on Israel.

Iran wants to be free “from Western domination”

In an interview with the TV station, the Iranian official also touched on the issue of relations with allies, saying that Russia and China “they seek to build a new international system to free themselves from Western domination,” which he stressed is a goal that Iran also supports.
