Duchess Kate attended the Festival of Remembrance, which took place on Saturday evening at London's Royal Albert Hall. This is her first public appearance after undergoing chemotherapy, Reuters reports.
Buckingham Palace announced that the duchess Wales will take part in Remembrance Day ceremonies this weekend. The Festival of Remembrance is an annual concert commemorating those who died in World War I.
Kate appeared at the Royal Albert Hall in a black dress decorated with a red poppy, a symbol of respect for those killed in battle. She was accompanied by her husband, Prince William, and other members royal family. She did not participate in the event Queen Kamila. Wife Charles III she temporarily withdrew from public engagements due to illness.
Kate's cancer
Kate is gradually returning to public duties after completing cancer treatment. The Princess of Wales announced in September that she had finished chemotherapy, but her road to full recovery would be long. The 42-year-old announced that she would take part in several public appearances at the end of the year.
The Prince of Wales recently called the past year “the most difficult year” of his life after both his wife and father were diagnosed with cancer. “I'm proud of my wife, I'm proud of my father, that they handled it,” Prince William told reporters at the end of his visit to South Africa. – But from a personal, family point of view, it was terrible – he added.
Buckingham Palace revealed in February that the king had cancer and would begin treatment. Memorial Day
Remembrance Day is a holiday on November 11, celebrated in Commonwealth countries in honor of soldiers who died in wars. It commemorates the signing of the armistice ending World War I on November 11, 1918 (at 11:00). At 11:00 a.m. two minutes of silence are paid to honor the fallen. This day is also called Poppy Day due to the custom of wearing poppies pinned to clothes as a sign of remembrance.
Remembrance Sunday is also celebrated every year. It usually falls on the second Sunday in November.
