A policeman from Ostrołęka was returning home after duty when he saw a man sitting on the roadside. The pedestrian was clearly disoriented and was wearing flip-flops. The officer helped a hypothermic man who was planning to walk home. He still had 30 kilometers left.
On Tuesday, around 4:20 p.m., a policeman from Ostrołęka returning from duty noticed a man sitting on the side of the road close to the road. The officer stopped and asked the pedestrian to move away from the road because he might be hit. During the conversation, he noticed that the man was shaking from the cold. So he went out to talk to him and see if he needed help.
He was 30 kilometers from home
– After approaching, it turned out that the man was wearing flip-flops and holey socks. He was cold and disoriented and was unable to provide phone numbers for his family members. He said that when he had a rest, he would walk home, which was almost 30 kilometers away – said Chief Inspector Tomasz Żerański, spokesman for the police in Ostrołęka.

The policeman immediately notified the Ostrołęka police officer on duty about the situation. He bought the man food and drink. He also persuaded him to warm up in one of the nearby shops. Then, the arriving police patrol took the man to his place of residence and handed him over to the care of a family member.
– This incident clearly shows how much help from outsiders is needed in such situations. We can forward reports about people at risk of hypothermia to the rescue services by calling 112, the spokesman said.
