Over 65 percent respondents surveyed by IBRiS want December 24 to be a day off from work. A survey commissioned by “Rzeczpospolita” shows strong and cross-party support for the project of free Christmas Eve being considered by the Sejm.
According to “Rz”, in a survey conducted on November 8-9, as many as 67.5 percent respondents said they supported this postulate – including 35.4 percent “definitely” and 32.1 percent “rather”. There are fewer opponents of this idea: 16.9 percent. claims that it “probably” should not be implemented, and 10.2% say that it should definitely not become binding law.
IN survey conducted on a sample of 1,067 respondents, the cross-party support for the idea is noteworthy. 65 percent voters of the current ruling coalition want to introduce a free Christmas Eve, as do 79 percent. right-wing voters (counted as PIS and Confederation) – indicates “Rz”.

Christmas Eve is a day off from work – what about the project?
On November 8, the Sejm submitted a project of the Left to establish Christmas Eve as a day off from work to two parliamentary committees: Committee for Social Policy and Family and Committee for Economy and Development. The project proposes establishing December 24 as a day off from work. It is to apply, among others, to: employees of commercial establishments, for whom currently – in accordance with the Act on Restriction of Trade on Sundays and Holidays – the working day is until 2 p.m.

The currently applicable Act on non-working days states that they are: January 1 – New Year's Day, January 6 – Epiphany, the first day of Easter, the second day of Easter, May 1 – Labor Day, May 3 – National Day of the Third of May, first day of Pentecost, Corpus Christi Day, August 15 – Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, November 1 – All Saints' Day, November 1 – National Day Independence, December 25, the first day of Christmas, December 26, the second day of Christmas and Sundays.
