Polish tennis players are fighting to advance to the final of the Billie Jean King Cup, the unofficial world championship. After the singles matches, there is a decisive doubles match, in which Iga Świątek and Katarzyna Kawa face Olympic champions, Jasmine Paolini and Sara Errani.
Polish women are doing great. Świątek impresses with his offensive tennis, just like in the decisive doubles match against the Czechs in the quarterfinals. And Kawa adds a lot of experience. We are watching a very close match, which in theory should not happen.
It is clear that the favored Paolini and Errani are doing everything to withstand the pressure of the Polish women. That's probably why they tried at all costs to win a very important point when it was absolutely not theirs. At 3:3 and 40:40, Świątek and Paolini exchanged action at the net. Iga played such a strong forehand that the ball bounced off the Italian's racket twice. The referee immediately noticed this, awarded a point to the Poles and our players took the lead 4:3 (in doubles, when the score is 40:40, there is no advantage play). The Italian team tried to protest the referee's decision. Paolini and Errani rushed to the referee, and Italy's captain, Tathiana Garbin, did so even faster.
While we were waiting for the replay, we saw that Dawid Celt immediately cooled down his opponents. The captain of our team was immediately happy about winning the game and was sure that the referee's decision was right. The Celt simply saw what we all saw a moment later.
The match continues, the Italians won the first set 7:5, although the Polish women had three set points at 5:4.
