The next edition of the Poland 2.0 Summit conference took place on Saturday, November 23 in The Hague. It brings together young Poles from all over the world. It is an opportunity to expand knowledge, establish contacts and cooperate with Polish entrepreneurs.

As the organization writes about itself, “Poland 2.0 is an organization bringing together young, ambitious Poles fascinated by new technologies and non-standard solutions. Our goal is to inspire a new generation of young entrepreneurs.” Its goal is to create a space for self-development for students, entrepreneurs and professionals.

What is the role of the media?

This year's conference guest included: Dorota Å»urkowska, Board Member of TVN Discovery Poland, who, together with experts from Google in Poland, Pekao SA and BNP Paribas, talked about the “dynamic transformation of Europe”. She also talked about the role and future of the media in the changing reality and the coming years.

– Today, the media are actually present everywhere, they are also a natural part of this digital transformation, because we reach consumers, our viewers not only through linear channels, i.e. in the traditional version, but also through our channels that are present on streaming platforms, in social media broadly understood. So this presence, it necessarily exists, and from the point of view of the media, it is a natural step to be able to reach audiences who today are in different places, use different technologies, from different screens – said Å»urkowska.

In her opinion, the role of traditional media today is also “to be able to build proper communication in the same credible way, information backed by real journalists, real names and which will be seen as authorities on whom we can rely on for information.” .

– Today, during the conference here Poland 2.0, talking to young people, we see how important a topic, if not a problem, is the ability to decipher what is decipherable, what is real information and what is fake news. And this will definitely be and is an element that surrounds us today and will probably grow. Therefore, today the task for traditional media, which are no longer in traditional form, but present, is also to build awareness that the information that we can find in all digital media, behind some of them there are real people, journalists, and some of them we need to decode and understand that they may be the result of algorithms or bots – explained Å»urkowska.

What does Poland 2.0 give students?

As Wiktor GaÅ‚ecki, Project Leader, a student at the University of Warwick, says, Poland 2.0 was created as a foundation “created by students for students”.

– This is a community of people who, after returning from classes, decided that they wanted to do something more, give something more of themselves and contribute to the good connection between people around the world. We organize annual events. Sometimes there are even two events a year. However, every year we organize one large event attended by several hundred people. This year we are hosting about 350 people. We are targeting large cities in Europe. We organized events in London, The Hague, Amsterdam and Warsaw – says GaÅ‚ecki.

A representative of the organization explains that their goal is “to unite students, so we also organize various programs outside the conferences, including the Work 2.0 internship program, which connects Polish start-ups or large partner companies with interested students from around the world.”

– We also have a database of information about foreign universities. We also have a database of information about foreign universities, several dozen guides written by our ambassadors, updated annually and enriched with new places on the map. It is a collection of information available to everyone free of charge, and anyone interested in studying abroad will find something for themselves there, he adds.
