Microsoft announced the delays after identifying the cause of a serious crash in Outlook and Teams and implementing a fix for the problem, CNN reported.
On Monday, the outage tracking website Downdetector showed more than 5,000 problems reported by users, although this data does not fully reflect the scale of the outage.
Users from NetherlandsPolish, France and Sweden wrote on X that they had problems with Microsoft Outlook.
According to the website of email marketing platform Mailmeteor, the issues affect services worldwide.
Outlook and Teams crashing
Microsoft said it had identified a “recent change that we believe has had an impact.” However, he did not provide any details or specify the exact reason. “We have begun rolling out a fix that is currently rolling out to the affected environment. While this progresses, we are initiating manual restarts on the subset of machines that are in poor condition,” the company said on social media.
Around noon, the company reported that the patch had reached “approximately 98% of affected environments,” although the number of reports on Downdetector continued to increase. It may take some time for the update to be delivered to customer systems, CNN reported.
However, Microsoft added that restarts are “progressing slower than expected for most affected users” and has not yet provided an estimated fix time. The company said it continues to face data recovery delays.
Technology failures have had tragic consequences around the world this year, although Microsoft's case is not as disruptive as others.
The CrowdStrike software problem, called the largest IT failure in history, halted air travel in the summer, disrupted hospital operations and cost Fortune 500 companies more than $5 billion in direct losses, the American portal pointed out.
