Janusz Palikot will remain in custody until January 1 – informed the Wrocław court. The businessman and former MP is suspected of causing unfavorable disposal of the property of several thousand people for nearly PLN 70 million.
On Friday, the District Court for Wrocław-Śródmieście agreed to the prosecutor's request. He decided that Palikot would remain in custody until January 1. He thus extended the temporary arrest of the former MP by another month. Prosecutor Łukasz Kudyk announced the court's decision.
At the beginning of October, a Wrocław court imposed a two-month arrest on Palikot and decided that the former politician would be able to leave him after paying PLN 1 million bail. An appeal against this decision was filed by the prosecutor's office and the defense, which questioned, among other things, deposit amount. After considering the complaints, the court decided on October 28 that: Janusz Palikot he will remain in custody until December 2 without bail.
On Tuesday, the prosecutor's office submitted a proposal extension of pre-trial detention for another month for Janusz Palikot, who agreed to publish his image and data). The Wrocław court considered this application. The businessman and former MP is suspected of causing unfavorable disposal of the assets of several thousand people for the amount of almost PLN 70 million.
Katarzyna Calów-Jaszewska, a prosecutor from the press department of the National Prosecutor's Office, announced on Tuesday that the prosecutor's office requested to extend the detention of the former MP for another month, i.e. until January 1. She explained that the investigators were making the conclusion because “there is a fear of fraud, and the crimes charged against the suspect carry a high penalty.”
A total of eight charges
Janusz Palikot, who agreed to publish his image and data, along with Przemysław B. and Zbigniew B., was arrested on October 3 by Central Anticorruption Bureau in Lublin and Biłgoraj. On the same day, they were transported to the National Prosecutor's Office in Wrocław, where they were charged.
Palikot was charged with eight charges, including seven of fraud and one of misappropriating property. His colleagues, Przemysław B. and Zbigniew B., were also charged with fraud. Additionally, Przemysław B. was charged with misappropriation of property. The prosecutor's office applied preventive measures against them. The case concerns the unfavorable disposal of the property of several thousand people amounting to nearly PLN 70 million in connection with the activities of companies belonging to the suspects. These are allegations from 2019-2023.
