A 46-year-old man was injured as a result of a gas explosion in a block of flats in Świętochłowice in the Silesian Voivodeship and suffered burns – the fire brigade reported. 40 tenants evacuated from the building. According to preliminary information, the accident occurred during the repair of a gas stove.
The spokeswoman of the Provincial Headquarters of the State Fire Service in Katowice, Brigadier Aneta Gołębiowska, informed that the accident occurred around 7.30 p.m. Gas exploded in an apartment on the first floor of a five-story building at ul. Zubrzycki. – A gas heater exploded in the bathroom – she said.
St. captain Rafał Biniąda from the Municipal Police Headquarters in Świętochłowice said that the force of the explosion tore out the window and balcony door in this apartment. The injured 46-year-old suffered burns, was conscious and was taken to the care of the emergency medical team. There were two other people in the same apartment who did not complain of any symptoms, the firefighter reported.
Even before the services arrived, 40 tenants had left the building. There is no indication that the building's structure was damaged. Nine fire brigades were dispatched to the site. – As a result of maintenance of the gas stove, the gas installation leaked and, as a result, there was an explosion – said Senior Capt. Binięda, asked about the circumstances of the accident.
Almost all tenants of the block of flats in Świętochłowice where the gas exploded on Wednesday evening were able to return to their apartments; Only the premises where the explosion occurred were put out of use, the fire brigade said.
