Biedronka will allocate almost PLN 450 million annually for raises for employees in basic positions, the company announced on Friday. The average salary increase for salespeople and cashiers is expected to be 10.5 percent. Lidl previously announced salary increases.
“Almost 67,000 employees of the Biedronka chain in stores and distribution centers will receive higher remuneration from January 1, 2025,” the company announced in a press release.
As added, the average increase in remuneration in stores for the salesperson-cashier position will be 10.5 percent; Biedronka will spend almost PLN 450 million on raises for employees in basic positions this year.
Salary increase at Biedronka
The company reminded that a salesperson-cashier starting to work online will earn at least PLN 5,150 to PLN 5,500 gross from January 2025; if the employee has more than three years of experience – from PLN 5,300 to PLN 5,750 gross. A beginner store manager will receive no less than PLN 7,200 gross.
The company announced that the salaries of employees of Biedronka chain distribution centers will also increase. A warehouse worker with the least experience will be able to earn between PLN 5,250 – 5,550 gross, and an administrative and warehouse inspector from PLN 6,100 – 6,400 gross.
“The amounts include rewards for no unplanned absence. Employees can also count on discretionary bonuses related to the achievement of sales or warehouse goals, increasing their real remuneration,” Biedronka said.
The owner of Biedronka is Jeronimo Martins Polska SA. Biedronka stores are located in over 1,300 towns. At the end of the first quarter of 2024, it had 3,596 branches. As we read on the Biedronka website, Jeronimo Martins Polska employs over 81,000. people.
Increases in Lidl
Last week, Lidl announced that in 2025 it will allocate nearly PLN 200 million for wage increases and the creation of additional jobs. The company currently employs nearly 29,000 people. employees.
From January 2025, store employees will earn from PLN 5,250 gross to PLN 6,450 gross at the beginning of employment. However, in the case of the warehouse crew's salary after increases, it will range from PLN 5,500 gross to PLN 7,200 gross. In turn, store managers can count on remuneration ranging from PLN 7,850 gross.
In 2023, Biedronka and Lidl were the largest retail chains in Poland in terms of revenue – Forbes magazine reported. The next places in the ranking of leading companies in the industry were taken by Eurocash, Dino and Żabka.
