Strong winds raged over Italy on Friday. In Como in the north of the country, gusts knocked down a Christmas tree standing in the square. The situation was also difficult on the coast of Ostia, where the wind damaged several structures in the port and on the beach.
On the night from Thursday to Friday it passed over Italy stormaccompanied by wind gusts of up to 90 kilometers per hour. The most dangerous place was Ostia, on the west coast of Italy, where the waves were two meters high.
Wind vs. Christmas
In northern Italy, in the city of Como, strong winds knocked down the city Christmas tree placed in the central Piazza del Duomo square. According to Italian media, the decoration fell around 5:30 a.m. when there were no people around. During the day, the Christmas tree was set up and properly protected against further gusts.
Strong winds and high waves also caused damage on the coast of Ostia. near Rome. The port and beach infrastructure and several buildings were damaged. In neighboring Fiumicino, three large Christmas installations collapsed in the center due to the wind. Nothing happened to anyone.
