The Gam Express merchant ship located in the Kerch Strait, connecting the Black Sea with the Sea of Azov, called for help, Reuters reported. According to reports, the crew of the Guinea-Bissau-flagged ship have not been paid their salaries for three months and received their last food shipment more than 30 days ago.
“The crew has not been paid for three months and has no food. The last time food was delivered on board was on November 16, it has already run out. That's why they are sending a signal for help,” said the Russian Seamen's Trade Union.
The Gam Express ship set sail on June 1 from the Turkish port of Mersin.
The Kerch Strait connects the Black Sea with the Sea of Azov and is the main shipping route in this region.
