Police officers from the Skorpion group (specializing in combating car thefts) from the North Praga police station established the identity of a 44-year-old man whom they suspected of leading a car theft team.
“The man coordinated the entire procedure related to the theft of bus vehicles, their disassembly for parts and sale,” said Superintendent Paulina Onyszko from the Warsaw VI District Police Headquarters in a statement titled “Car thieves detained while on the job by Scorpions from Praga Północ.”
A screw in the ignition and a court ban
A few days ago, the officers planned an operation during which they arrested a man red-handed.
“At around 2 a.m., the man selected by the operational officers arrived at the Wawer street in Warsaw together with his partner. The police took action when the 44-year-old broke the lock on the door of the Citroen and got into the cab,” Onyszko reported. His 35-year-old partner tried to escape, which was prevented by the officers participating in the operation.
Then they searched both men. They found a breaker, an igniter and a winch on the 44-year-old – items used to steal cars. They also checked the interior of the Citroen. They found a screw in the ignition. Her presence confirmed that the vehicle was being prepared for theft.
Moreover, the 44-year-old's accomplice was driving the car despite a court driving ban.
Charges and temporary arrest
Both men were charged with attempted burglary of a Fiat and a Citroen, burglary of a Citroen and burglary of a Citroen. These crimes were committed by men in conditions of recidivism. In addition, the 35-year-old will also be held responsible for violating a court driving ban.
Both detainees were imprisoned for three months.
