A week ago, Real Madrid beat CF Pachuca 3-0 and won the Intercontinental Cup. It was also the 28th trophy won by the captain of the Royals, Luka Modric. Thus, the Croatian midfielder became the most successful player in the history of Real, with whom he won, among others: the Champions League six times and the Spanish championship four times.
Luka Modrić, now 39, joined Real Madrid in the summer of 2012 for EUR 35 million from Tottenham. Back then, he or anyone else probably couldn't have predicted that he would play for such a long time in Madrid and that he would play 560 games for the club (at the moment), in which he scored 39 goals and made 90 assists.
Real Madrid is looking for a successor to Luka Modric. The AC Milan player is a candidate
However, time passes inexorably and it is possible that the current season will be the last for the Croatian in Real Madrid. His contract expires in June next year, and he will turn 40 in September. For this reason, the club's owners from Estadio Santiago Bernabeu are looking for a player who could replace Modric.
“La Gazzetta dello Sport” reported that Real Madrid is looking at Tijjani Reijnders from AC Milan. “They were impressed by his performance at the Bernabeu and viewed it in the context of the 'casting' to select Modric's successor next summer,” we read.
This is how the Italian newspaper referred to the match between Real and Milan in the Champions League, which the Rossoneri won 3-1, and the Dutch midfielder scored one of the goals. However, “La Gazzetta dello Sport” points out that it will not be easy for Real to transfer Reijnders, because AC Milan wants to extend his contract, which expires at the end of June 2028, for another year. Currently, the Milan club is said to value the 26-year-old at at least EUR 60 million.
