Cristiano Ronaldo joined Real Madrid in 2009 and left in 2018. The Portuguese joined the club as a star, but he strengthened his status and reached a much higher level. He won basically everything and set tons of records. After the transfer from PSG, everyone expects Kylian Mbappe to step into his shoes and lead Real to glory.

Kylian Mbappe outperformed Cristiano Ronaldo. The statistics at Real Madrid are merciless

The Spanish media compares Mbappe to Ronaldo at every step, and the “AS” daily did no different. As it turns out, in the first months after the transfer, the Frenchman even managed to surpass the Portuguese and by the Christmas break he had scored more goals than the legend in 2009.

Specifically, Mbappe has scored 14 goals since his transfer to Christmas, while Ronaldo scored one goal less in that time. “Let history speak,” write the Spaniards. This does not mean, however, that there is no important factor in this situation – the number of matches played by both players.

Mbappe needed 24 matches to score 14 goals, and Ronaldo… 12 matches. In 2009, after Ronaldo's transfer, the Madrid team played 21 matches until Christmas, but the Portuguese suffered an injury in a Champions League match. The injury excluded him from the game for eight games, and in one he was suspended for a card. So he scored one goal less than Mbappe, but he needed 12 fewer matches to do so.

Until the December break in Madrid, Ronaldo scored a goal on average every 67 minutes. This is an absolutely great result. For comparison, Mbappe scored on average every 139 minutes, which was almost twice as many as the Portuguese. In this respect, the Frenchman cannot compare with his legendary predecessor, who also wore the number nine on his shirt in his first season.

“Despite different issues, they scored almost the same number of goals at the same stage of the season. Everyone can draw their own conclusions, but both of them filled stadiums and gave people reasons to talk,” “AS” sums up these statistics.
