Plane crash in Kazakhstan. Suspension of flights between Moscow and Ashgabat

Regular flights between Moscow and the capital of Turkmenistan – Ashgabat – are to be suspended from Monday for a month, Reuters reported, citing Russian media. The suspension is related to the plane crash in Kazakhstan.

Earlier, due to Wednesday's disaster, flights to Russia national carriers canceled Azerbaijan (AZAL) and Kazakhstan (Qazaq Air), as well as the Israeli airline El Al. In addition, Fly Dubai, a low-cost carrier from the United Arab Emirates, suspended connections with Russia.

Plane crash in Kazakhstan

The Azerbaijan Airlines plane was flying from Azerbaijan's capital Baku to Grozny in Chechnya in the southern Russian Federation on Wednesday when it veered off route and crashed in Kazakhstan. Most of the passengers on the Embraer-190 plane were Azerbaijani citizens. There were also 16 Russians and several Kazakh citizens on board Kyrgyzstan.

38 people died in the disaster, 29 survived.

AZAL Airlines announced on Friday that, according to preliminary findings, the crash of the carrier's passenger plane was caused by “external physical and technical interference.”
