Every year, about 150 people die in bicycle accidents. We do not know how many of these people could live if a helmet had – said on Sunday on TVN24 the president of the Kask Association is cool! Rafał Wieczorek. The organization promotes the habit of putting on bicycle helmets among children and their parents. He is also trying to convince the rulers to change the law.
The Kaskas Association is cool! Established in 2022. – As parents operating in the Parents' Council of one of the Kalisz elementary schools, we began educational activities, because we noticed that the problem is quite large. Probably at education as part of the Parents' Council would end if it wasn't for the fatal accident of our school graduate. We had no way out and we had to take the matter into our own hands and expand this idea – explained the president of the Association Rafał Wieczorek.
Educational activities
The helmet on the head while cycling is extremely important. In a situation where an accident occurs, he can even save his life. How does the association encourage you to wear it? – We drive, visit schools within our city or poviat. We come from Kalisz, so we were able to visit a dozen or so schools – Wieczorek pointed out.
– In 2022 we outlined 2,000 preschoolers, of which 700 received helmets from the Association – he added.
He pointed out that as part of last year's action carried out in cooperation with the Road Administration on the streets of the city, there were special plates with the slogan: driving in a helmet, you give an example to children.

Changes in the law are necessary
Wieczorek admitted that as an association they are not able to educa everyone, and the statistics are inexorable. – Every year about 150 people die in bicycle accidents. We don't know how many of these people could live if a helmet had. We will not reduce the number of accidents, but we can reduce their effects – he said.
In Poland, there is no provision ordering to wear a helmet while cycling. – Since the beginning of our association, we have focused on education, but also on an attempt to interest in the change of legislation – said Wieczorek. As a positive example of this type of change, he gave the order to wear helmets on the ski slopes when practicing winter sports.
The president of the association indicated that the promises of changes in the law appeared on the part of the Ministry of Sport as early as 2020, but the promises ended. – We hope that in this term of the Sejm, someone will bend over a fairly simple matter, but how important. We have human life at the scales – emphasized Rafał Wieczorek.
