The Moldovan president most likely won the second round of the presidential elections. In the USA, the last stretch of the campaign is underway, and during the final rallies the contrast between the candidates becomes visible. In Spain, victims are being counted after the flood in Valencia. Here are five things to know on Monday, November 4.
1. Maia Sandu with over almost 55 percent support
After counting the votes from 98.65 percent of the electoral commissions in Moldova incumbent president Maia Sandu received 54.9% support in the second round of the presidential elections.
According to CEC data, Sandu's opponent, Alexandr Stoianoglo, won in electoral commissions throughout the country with a result of approximately 51.19 percent. Traditionally, the mobilization of the diaspora prevailed in favor of the pro-Western candidate, this time record-breaking – according to data from midnight, over 327,000 voters voted abroad on the night from Sunday to Monday.
Maia Sandu thanked Moldovans in her speech. – Moldova, you won. Today you taught a lesson in democracy that should be written down in history books, Sandu said.
2. America chooses. An electoral finish with contrasts
These are the last days of Kamala Harris and Donald Trump's fight for votes, especially in the swing states that will determine the outcome of this year's US presidential elections. Press agencies, reporting on the Sunday rallies of both candidates, drew attention to the contrasting attitudes of politicians.
Donald Trump's speech in Pennsylvania – noted journalists from Reuters and Associated Press – was characterized by “dark rhetoric”. The agencies quoted the statement of a Republican who said that he would not mind if a potential attacker shot at him through the media – he also pointed to the sector where the journalists were. Kamala Harris never directly used the name of her opponent in her speeches, and her rhetoric was more conciliatory. The US elections will formally take place on Tuesday, but early voting has been going on in the US for several weeks; in some cases determined voters stood in long linesto put a cross next to the name of the selected candidate.
3. Many victims of floods in Spain
On Tuesday and Wednesday, the Spanish region of Valencia was hit by the worst flooding in nearly 30 years. The water flowing with incredible force took away everything in its path, leaving behind an incredible landscape of destruction. It was the country's deadliest flood in decades. According to preliminary data, over 200 people died in the disaster. However, the final number is still unknown and will probably not be confirmed soon.

4. The Prime Minister of Israel on the continuation of the war, the President of Iran on the ceasefire
The only way to ensure the safety of the inhabitants of Israel's north is to push Hezbollah beyond the Litani River, said Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday, declaring the continuation of hostilities in Lebanon. – In simple words: action, action, action – said Netanyahu and added that Hezbollah should also be “cut off from oxygen”, i.e. from supplies of, among others, weapons from Iran via Syria.
Iran's president previously stated that Israel should decide on a ceasefire in Lebanon and the Gaza Strip. – If they reconsider their behavior, accept the ceasefire and stop massacring the suppressed and innocent people in the region, it may influence the strength of our response – said Masoud Pezeszkian. Netanyahu stated that no ceasefire could be concluded until Hezbollah was pushed beyond the Litani River.
