Snow storms hit Turkey. As a result of the sudden deterioration of the weather, two people died and several hundred sheep froze to death. The rainfall led to paralysis on the roads, many drivers got stuck in snowdrifts and required help from emergency services.
Heavy snowfall led to traffic paralysis in many regions of Turkey on Tuesday. According to Turkish media, drivers were stuck in their cars on snow-covered roads. Due to the violent weather, schools were closed in 24 provinces and some districts.
Attack of winter weather
“Due to heavy snowfall, especially in the north, center and east of the country, life in rural areas has stopped,” Duvar wrote. Rescuers helped people get out of buried cars.
The Malatya provincial authorities reported almost 800 rescue operations. Many roads are still impassable due to snowstorms and blizzards.
Fatalities
As a result of the violent weather in the provinces of Mersin and Malatya, two shepherds died and many others became trapped while grazing their animals. In the south of the country, in Karaman province, 350 sheep froze to death.
According to Turkish media reports, in Giresun province, five people were stuck in their vehicles, which were buried in snow. The intervention of firefighters was necessary. Also in Bolu province, 18 people were rescued from buried cars.
